This year’s preview will be a lot shorter than last season. Only 4 Mexican Internationals will ply their trade in La Liga this season, 3 if Memo never sees the field for Malaga in league play. Gone are Moreno, Aquino, Chicharito, Gio, and Jimenez. So lets keep this short and sweet…

The Eredivisie was set to kick off this past weekend but a police strike caused several games to be postponed. PSV and FC Twente were amongst the games pushed into midweek.

The English Premier League is set to kickoff this weekend. There are currently only 2 Mexican internationals on EPL rosters but for the sake of this preview, lets include Raul Jimenez as a West Ham player. His loan deal is expected to be finalized this weekend.
Mexico v Panama
Its put up or shut up time for Mexico. The same might especially be true for their manager, Piojo Herrera. Mexico has made it to the semifinals in controversial fashion but it will be for nothing if they cant advance tonight. They will face a Panama side that had to endure extra time and PKs. So what does Mexico have to do tonight to win? Here are my thoughts

Mexico vs USA
This game might be the least exciting rivalry game for me in years but it is still Mexico vs US. Although Piojo said Mexico needs to win, one look at the rosters and you’ll realize Mexico might be the underdog. While the core of Jurgen’s team has come back to MLS, Piojo’s core players mostly ply their trade in el viejo continento and not LigaMX.
Still, Piojo needs to evaluate the player pool to decide on 46 players to call up this summer for their 2 tournaments. He seems to understand that is where his priorities are and his callups reflect that.

Mexico vs Paraguay
Mexico had a sluggish performance on Saturday and finish off their FIFA date with another friendly tonight against Paraguay. It is nearly a brand new starting XI with Diego Reyes as the only hold over. Injuries forced Piojo’s hand but this should be a good look at the base of the Copa America team.

Mexico vs Ecuador
It is about that time again. Its time for some friendlies! I know many people say friendlies don’t mean anything but I believe they can be valuable. No, I’m not talking about wins or losses. I would much rather lose 1-0 and play well than win 1-0 and play like crap. I am talking about how the team plays in those games. With a busy summer approaching, there are a few things I will keep an eye on during the game against Ecuador on Saturday

Belarus v Mexico
The lineup is out and nearly features a whole new team (Paul Aguilar being the only exception). This was to be expected given that is how Piojo has treated the 2nd game in the post-WC friendlies. The way I look at it, Netherlands was the main course and Belarus will be the dessert. The new look lineup sees the Dos Santos hermanos starting together for El Tri. Something we thought would be a common occurrence but has not happened for a couple of years now.
Here is what I will be keeping my eye on.

Holland v Mexico – Part Dos
Game day is upon us and Piojo has released his lineup….. Yes, Vela is starting with former Chivas teammate Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez up top. While many were hoping for a 3-headed attack of Gio, Chicha, & Vela, most knew that was not likely w/Piojo’s current tactics. I agree with Cesar Hernandez, I wish Piojo would have introduced Vela like in a certain Disney movie
I think the best way for Piojo to introduce Vela is the same way Simba was introduced in the beginning of the Lion King.
